MOJITO

November 14, 2022

In my last article, did you find out where the word cocktail comes from? Today I would like to tell you about a drink that you will find on my menu, but what is important – a drink that everyone probably knows. I’m talking specifically about Mojito!

The mojito recipe first appeared in the Sloppy Joe’s Bar Manual in 1931. In 1942, Angel Martinez opened the famous La Bodeguita del Medio, where Mojito was served, which conquered all of Havana. It was about this place that Hemingway used to say that Mojito only in Bodeguit. This Cuban drink was one of Ernest Hemingway’s favorites. The drink is believed to have been fed to Hemingway on a regular basis. The famous author was known to love many different types of drinks, but the writer especially liked the mojitos, especially after his time in Cuba. Thanks to the celebrities, the news of Mojito crossed the borders of Cuba, reached the USA and conquered the whole world.

Special thanks go to James Bond for the revival of Mojito. In the 2002 movie Die Another Day, James Bond and Jinx are enjoying Mojito on the beach, and the famous scene with Halle Berry and Pierce Brosnan helped restore the drink’s popularity. In fact, when the movie was released there was a noticeable surge in Mojito sales.

This refreshing drink is the perfect solution for summer parties. Sugar, mint, lime and ice make the recipe for a Cuban drink most people reach for holiday meetings. However, you can enjoy the taste of Cuba all year round, regardless of the circumstances.

Mojito is one of the most popular drinks in the world, so you shouldn’t be surprised by the large number of recipes. If you are bored with the classic version of this alcohol, you can try other combinations. Thanks to this, you will avoid boredom and discover many new, interesting flavors.

You can prepare the classic Mojito with:

  • 40 ml of white rum
  • 20 ml of sugar syrup or 2 teaspoons of sugar (preferably brown)
  • 6 mint leaves
  • lime halves
  • 40 ml of sparkling water
  • crushed ice

You don’t drink alcohol, and you want to check what the famous drink from Cuba tastes like? Reach for the Mojito recipe in the non-alcoholic version. Rum will replace more sparkling water, lime and mint, and lemon juice will also be a welcome addition.
